And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go. So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood. But as one was felling a beam, the ax head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed. And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he showed him the place. 10. What happened 40 days after Jesus' day of birth?
Answer: Mary's ceremonial purification is complete and Jesus presentation is made
"And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called JESUS, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord" (Luke 2:21-22 NKJV)

"Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean. And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised. And she shall then continue in the blood of her purifying three and thirty days; she shall touch no hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying be fulfilled." (Lev 12:2-4 KJV)

Note: the eighth day -- the day of circumcision -- is part of the thirty-three days after the seven days. Therefore the total days required for purification being 40 days. The day after (i.e., 40 days after the birth) the male child is presented to the Lord.
